just got my beta invite yesterday.  as soon as I get my windows partition in order, I'll let you all know what I think of it.

got it installed and up and running late last night.  Mind you, I've not played the original in a long time, so I'm lucky if I can remember what half the units are supposed to do.

first reaction was disapointment, because currently they are only beta testing the multiplayer play.  I was hoping to dig into some single player to get used to the interface again, but I suspect they don't want to spoil the story before release.

Its cool to see the new battle.net chat interface and RealID friends list.  As half my current WoW guild are starcraft fanatics, being able to keep in contact across games is going to be sweet.

I only had time to play a couple multiplayer battles before sleep called (ok, before the wife smacked me in the head and said "its 2am, get your ass off the computer, you have work tomorrow").  they give you 5 "practice matches" that don't go towards your rating and the ladders.  As far as it went, I was impressed.  everything ran very smoothly, the game looked great, and it was pretty much exactly what I expected from blizzard.  I hope to get in some serious play with it this weekend, but so far, it looks like something that would be worth the money.  More to come...

How's the beta going, X?

I guess they are now offering Beta keys for pre-order at Gamestop.  I've heard there is limited availability though, not sure.  I think I'll wait for the time being as I have a lot of work travel coming up in the next month but if anyone wants access it's a good way if you are going to buy the game anyway....

sorry for the delay, got hit by a layoff at work, so job hunting is taking a priority at the moment.  Got some time to play the other night, and they were pushing a patch, so I got to spend my time watching the patch download.  hopefully I'll get the job stuff straightened out this week and get back to some gaming.

I've been looking at this game.  My only experience with RTS are some console demos.  This game looks sweet though.

Side note; the gamestop preorder promotion is over so disregard that now.  Also I heard that beta will go down for a few weeks at the end of May.

I haven't played RTS in a long time (last was probably original SC/Warcraft II/Command and Conquer).  I kind of skipped over Supreme Commander/War III.  So I'll probably be pretty bad starting out, but a good friend of mine is getting it plus it's kind of the next big game coming up :-).

So what is the source of hype for this game?  Was the first starcraft really that good?  How does it compare to C & C?  Pardon my noobishness.
