The game looks sweet. But I have a couple of issues with the latest announcement.
Why are there two Jedi classes ( and apparently two sith classes for the empire to balance things out ).
Shouldn't it be one jedi class with different spec trees? Also, I'm highly concerned with the lack of classes in general. Four classes per faction doesn't seem like it will be anywhere near enough to rival World of Warcraft.
Also,
Both smuggler and bounty hunter should be faction independent, and there should be a sith trooper class as well.
Other than that, the game looks sweet. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Meh, it just looks to me like they went two classes in order to segregate the abilities a bit more. Jedi Knight is melee Jedi Consular is caster I'm sure they could have combined them into one class and done different trees, but I can also see why they'd want to separate them out a bit more. The combat graphics and full voiceovers are very impressive, so this one's still on the table for me. We'll have to see what else they bring out before release

I hadn't been back on the site in a while, lots of new videos/media. I like how each class has distinct playstyle/abilities. Looks awesome.
Splitting the Jedi class types is actually sticking to the Star Wars lore. There are different types of Jedi/Sith. Some specilize in lightsaber/close combat, others in the force, and there's yet another class that is a mix of the two. I think it even breaks down into more sub-classes from there.
Since the number of classes is limited, I think they had to ally certain classes with each side. From what I've seen, smugglers will still be in it for themselves to an extent. I think I'd rather have four really developed classes then eight that are not really unique.

Since Star Wars is a ways off is anyone interested in giving Star Trek Online a shot? It comes out in February and I've been thinking about getting the collectors edition for the beta key and 2 day head start before release. It will also give me 3 10-day buddy passes.
It sounds like a good idea. You have ranks and skills (spec) that help determine what type of ship you can command. I guess you get away teams etc. etc. and open PVP is restricted to certain areas of space unless you flag for it. Sounds like my type of game so I figure I may give it a shot.

I know a few people who are picking up STO. I haven't decided if I'm going to pick it up or not. I love the Star Trek world, but would like to try out the game before I committ. I did sign up for the closed beta, but haven't heard anything.

I was alittle taken back by the fact that there are 2 force using classes per faction. Then I started to think about it and it makes sense. You have to think in this timeline there are alot more force sensative people. The sith have an entire planet that is nothing but force sensative. I rpg terms force really is magic and to have only one magic user per side is off balancing. There would be a flood of that one type of class. This now brings balance to the force.

Does the existence of force points (towards light and darkside) based on the decisions you make suggest possible faction swapping?
I ask because in the trailer, there is a female twi'lek that appears to be a smuggler teamed up with the sith lord and bounty hunter.
So far the smuggler has been identified as a republic class.
